The work of Gabriel Ruiz-Tagle by Chiledeportes began. On Monday he met for more than two hours with the directors of ASO, the company that organises the Dakar.
The French idea was to reach an agreement, at least in words, to ensure the third edition of the race in South America, work for which they work against time at the moment - as usually next year's decision past February never happened.
Ruiz-Tagle, personally commissioned by Sebastian Pinera was very favorable to the possibility of retaining the Dakar, knows that it is the first major test of its new management.
But both sides ran in the monetary aspect. Following the earthquake, and all expenses that is required to rebuild the country, the idea of government is to spend no more than budgeted in the Bachelet administration. That is, six million US dollars in cash, besides the contributions in coordination and logistics.
ASO asked for seven million US dollars to offset the drop in competitors, an amount that Argentina had agreed to cover, if the contribution was followed by Chile.
Ruiz-Tagle said they could find ways to cover the difference, especially from the private world, an alternative that, in the first instance, pleased the Europeans, who mentioned that they had other offers on the table.
